Help & FAQ's
What is PVD?
PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) is an advanced coating process that bonds a layer of 18K gold to 316L stainless steel at a molecular level. The result is a finish that is significantly more durable, tarnish-resistant, and hypoallergenic than traditional gold plating. Unlike standard plating, PVD won't flake, chip, or fade under normal wear conditions.
What is 316L stainless steel?
316L stainless steel is a surgical-grade, hypoallergenic metal known for its exceptional strength, corrosion resistance, and durability. It is widely used in medical and industrial applications due to its ability to withstand harsh environments. At Leo's Luxury Jewelry, we use 316L stainless steel as the base for our premium PVD-coated pieces, ensuring a long-lasting, high-quality finish.
Does PVD jewelry tarnish?
PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) is significantly more resistant to tarnishing than traditional gold plating. The molecular bond between the 18K gold and 316L stainless steel base makes it highly durable under everyday wear. While no finish is completely immune to wear over time, proper care will keep your PVD piece looking its best for years.
Is your jewelry water-resistant?
Our PVD-coated and 316L stainless steel pieces are water-resistant and can handle everyday exposure such as rain or hand washing. However, we recommend removing your jewelry before swimming, bathing, or submerging in water for extended periods to preserve the finish and extend its longevity.
Is your jewelry nickel-free?
Our PVD-coated and 316L stainless steel pieces are hypoallergenic and nickel-free, making them a great option for those with sensitive skin. Please check the individual product page to confirm the material for each piece.
How do I care for my jewelry?
To keep your piece looking its best, avoid prolonged exposure to water, harsh chemicals, perfumes, and lotions. Remove your jewelry before swimming, bathing, or working out. While PVD and 316L stainless steel are more durable than traditional gold-plated jewelry and built to last, proper care will help extend its longevity and keep it looking sharp.

Our PVD and 316L stainless steel pieces are manufactured in the United States. Our other chain styles are globally sourced from trusted suppliers. Regardless of origin, all pieces are selected to meet our quality standards. Material and finish details are listed on each individual product page.
